Scotland Take Bronze In European Team Championship

Scotland clinched third place in golf's European Ladies Team Championship at the five-star La Manga Club resort.

Scotland clinched third place in golf's European Ladies Team Championship with a 4½-2½ victory over Germany in the bronze medal playoff at the five-star La Manga Club resort.

Sweden beat their Spanish hosts 4-3 to take the title while England had to settle for sixth place as they lost their final match 4½-½ to France, having previously suffered defeat to Scotland in the quarter-finals.

Ireland and Wales did not qualify for the matchplay section of the contest after failing to make the top eight in the first two days’ strokeplay rounds.

More than 100 of the continent’s top amateur female golfers travelled to La Manga Club for the five-day event as 17 nations battled for the title, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland.

The competition is the latest in a long line of prestigious events La Manga Club has hosted. Its three championship golf courses are regular settings for professional, celebrity and corporate competitions and the five-star venue has also previously held the Spanish Open.

Top-flight final placings: 1, Sweden; 2, Spain; 3, Scotland; 4, Germany; 5, France; 6, England; 7, Denmark; 8, Netherlands.
