Default Son Gual Hits New Heights With 'Heli-Golf' Challenge

Mallorca’s top golf course, Golf Son Gual, has launched its inaugural Helicopter Golf Challenge.

Golfers looking for an extra thrill can enjoy 18 holes of competitive golf followed by a memorable helicopter flight across the beautiful island.

On Saturday, July 17, the golfing cognoscenti can experience one of Europe’s premium golf courses with champagne, fine food and a memorable helicopter flight across the island.

The 7,240-yard, Thomas Himmel-designed course has recently hosted a number of high-profile events, including the 2009 Son Gual Mallorca Senior Open, the recent worldwide media launch of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class cabriolet and tournaments for prestige brands such as Loewe, Mont Blanc and Bulgari.

In conjunction with rotorflug helicopters SL, participants on the day will enjoy 18-holes on Son Gual’s stunning course, followed by a champagne bar reception on completion. Each fourball will then be treated to a scenic helicopter flight across the beautiful Mallorcan landscape and out to sea before returning to land at Son Gual’s private heli-pad.

Entry to the pairs’ better-ball competition costs €299 per person and, as well as the golf and flight, includes a prize-giving and barbeque on the club’s terrace.

The helicopter company is also offering a VIP heli-limo service for anyone visiting Son Gual with golfers able to book a return flight from wherever they are based on Mallorca.

Golf Son Gual has been lavished with praise since opening in October 2007. Golf World magazine recently ranked Son Gual in its prestigious top 100 European courses, saying it was “…one of the more spectacular courses in the Mediterranean region,” while former Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam said: “It’s a bit like Augusta.”

The club’s debenture launch last year brought in €1m-worth of memberships in the first month.
And, despite the recession, more than 30 per cent of new members came from the UK as Son Gual’s reputation spread among owners of villas and the cruisers moored in Palma’s marina.

The debentures are valid for life, transferable and cover spouses and all children under 21 years of age.
Guests on July 17 will be sure to see Son Gual in all its glory – from both land and sky
